Now in My Bookbag: Uprising (Alternate Earth Series Book 2) by SJ West

Once I began to read Uprising, I realised that I needed to go back and reread Book #1, Catalyst. I was lost from the beginning of Uprising and it would have helped to have a prologue containing a very brief summary of Catalyst because of the numerous new characters in this series. I found that I had forgotten who the new characters were and what their place was in the scheme of things.

Other than that fact, I found the book engaging and the concepts always interesting. There were parts that made me laugh, some that made me cry, and an ending that had me saying OMG! Did that really just happen?

I thought that, before the next release, I would read through Catalyst and Uprising again. I felt that Uprising garnered 4 of 5 stars because of its concept and well-written story.

Now in My Bookbag: Intransigent (After Light Saga #3) by Cameo Renae

This saga just became awesome on a whole new level!!

Renae’s focus on Abi’s abilities and strengths creates a story all its own. At its heart is the accelerated growth of Abi’s telepathy and powers, and her new friendships with the other “Readers” in the program.

Intransigent delivers action and excitement. It brings new characters to life while never leaving the favorite characters behind. The continued story of Abi and Finn is always both heartwarming and bittersweet. As always, her family provides Abi’s strength while being her greatest weakness.
Renae ends this book with solemn questions hanging in the air. What will Abi do next? What will be the fallout when she chooses?

This book is a definite page-turner and a must-read. If you have not already started this series, now is the time.

Now in My Bookbag: Tremble (Celestra Series Book #2) by Addison Moore

There are a lot of good concepts in this series so far. This book, while still an interesting read, feels more convoluted than Ethereal (Book #1 of the series). It has a tendency to go in circles and falls short of the wonderful storytelling of Ethereal… which flows beautifully.

I am disappointed that this book feels like everything was thrown into it but the kitchen sink. I feel that Moore somehow lost her focus while writing this sequel, and I hope that the rest of the series finds its way back to the tone and flow of Ethereal. I regrettably give this book 3 of 5 stars.

Now in My Bookbag: Ethereal (Celestra Series Book #1) by Addison Moore

I find this book very enjoyable. It is not the average ‘nephilim’ story. Instead, it is a well thought out, interesting, young adult, paranormal story. And Addison Moore is a gifted storyteller.

I find the concept compelling, and I read it straight through with very few interruptions. The entire book peaks my interest and I just have to know what happens next.

As this is the first book in an eight book series, I expect to find layer upon layer of Skyla’s story. I trust that the few gaps in this story will be filled in the ensuing books.

I recommend this read with 4 of 5 stars.

Now in My Bookbag: Scorched by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I Love, Love, Love This Book!!

It deals with very difficult topics with such raw honesty, it blows me away. Andrea and Tanner feel as though they are real people who bravely share their thoughts, feelings, and emotions with me. Andrea’s journey is especially hard to ‘watch’ because she quickly becomes this friend whom you wish to help, but can not. All of the gritty details bring me inside the story and make me an emotional mess.

Armentrout does it again, delivering a story with characters so real they could be part of a family, or set of friends, that I know. It is an awesome read, and I highly recommend it.

Now in My Bookbag: Forged in Stone (The Forged Chronicles Book 1) by Alyssa Rose Ivy

This book is an extension of one of my favorite trilogies ever, The Afterglow Trilogy. This new series is centered upon James and Ainsley. James is one of my favorite characters from Afterglow.

He is a tragic hero who is tarnished, by association with his evil father, even though he does the right thing when it matters. In Forged in Stone, it is a few years later and James is settled into his life as a Guardian. He meets Ainsley when he arrives unexpectedly at the Calloway home where she is housesitting. Both of their worlds are turned upside down.

This book is a study in how we become who we are. How do we trust and what do we fear most?

I really love this revisit to Energo, and I love being in the company of Charlotte and Liam once again. However, I must admit that the ending to Forged in Stone has left me a bit shell shocked.

I hope the wait for Forged in Ice is not a long one!

My Interview with Contemporary Romance Author E.B. Walters

Today I am privileged to interview bestselling author E.B. Walters. She is well known as the author of such contemporary romances as The Fitzgerald Family series and the new Infinitus Billionaire series. The first book in the series, Impulse, is already available for purchase. The second book, Indulge, is available for preorder now and will release on August 4, 2015.

Thank you for having me on your blog.

You are very welcome. I appreciate the chance to ask a few
questions for your fans, including me.

Q: How old were you when you wrote your first story?

It was a play in high school, so I was 17

Q: What was your inspiration for Impulse… the Infinitus Billionaire series?

Hmm, what can I say inspired me? Lex, actually. After three years of helping or rescuing a family member here and there,

I knew there would be more to him. He couldn’t just be your average billionaire and he couldn’t be the only one.

So I thought of giving him a friend and Dom popped in my head. Then I was seeing Sloan, the recluse. Then Rod the man-whore.

Finding a reason for them to be friends wasn’t hard.  A common incident and a common enemy did it.

Q: How important are the character names you choose? How do you choose them?

Oh, man, I SUCK at naming my characters. That’s why I ask my street team for names.

When I have a character whose name starts with a certain letter, I tend to gravitate towards names starting with that same letter.

I’ve used names from my kids’ swim team, the phone book, and the list of names from my kids’ schools.

Yeah, I know. Super lame.

Q: Is there a character that has surprised you in some way?

Rake has. He’s the ass-hole, the hard-ass, yet he keeps surprising me. We find out a lot more about him in Indulge.

Q: How many more books do you see in The Infinitus Billionaire Series?

Seven more books, one for each billionaire. So that is nine books.

Q: Your Impulse/Indulge books in the series deal with Jillian’s Hollywood movie stunt work fairly specifically. How did you go about researching this career?

LOL, I read a lot about stunts online and watched videos of stunt sequences.

Q: Where (or when) do you get the most story inspiration?

I’d love to say the news or movies, but that would be bending the truth a bit.

I look at a guy… any guy… and my imagination goes into overdrive.  I speculative about his life.

If it’s a couple that’s piqued my interest, I weave a story around them, then I add things I’ve heard or read from media.

Q: What does your writing process look like?

First, I try to know my characters.

I can take a week listening to them in my head, have an idea where the story starts and how it ends,

my characters’ goals, motives, and the main conflicts they’ll overcome to reach their goals.

Once I work those out in my head, I sit and I write. I hate plotting on paper.

Usually after the first chapter, the characters take over and guide me.

Q: What are your 10 favorite books and why?

Whitney My Love by Judith McNaught… historical romance. She is my favorite  historical romance author.

Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood) because I love tortured heroes and Zsadist made me cry

Any Dark Hunter book by Sherrilyn Kenyon… the stories are amazing

Lauren Blakely’s books because the sex scenes are hot

Bella Andre’s books because the woman knows how to write sexual tension.

Abbi Glines books because she can take anything ordinary and make it extraordinary

Jennifer L. Armentrout Lux books because the woman is a gifted story teller.

The Mortal Instrument books because I fell in love with Jace

Relentless by Karen Lynch because of the uniqueness of the story

Judgement of Six series by Melissa Haag because I love the way she writes Werewolves romance

Thank you again for the chance to learn more about
the Infinitus Billionaire series from your point of view,

and thank you for sharing your favorite books. I am sure that your recommendations will provide invaluable reading suggestions for your fans.

Now in My Bookbag: Depravity (A Beastly Tale Part 1) by M.J. Haag

I am in LOVE with this enchanting, imaginative retelling of the classic story of Beauty and the Beast.

This story is well-written, the characters are complex and the book is an absolute page turner. Once I started this read, I could not stop.

I was drawn into Benella’s story and found her life, and family dynamics, completely fascinating. The connection between her and the Beast is captivating, even though the Beast is a slightly disturbing character who has much to learn from Benella.

The book is engrossing and the ending leaves me screaming for more. I wish Part 2 was already here!

Now in My Bookbag: Forgotten (The Guardian Legacy) by Ednah Walters

This book stands apart from the other books in this series because it focuses almost solely on Lil. She awakens from a seven-month coma with amnesia. She is reeducated through the lens of the Hermonites, but Lil is always true to herself. She also has Bran watching over her.

It is a really great book. Once I removed my preconceived notion of having the Guardians be the center of Lil’s whole world, I read it as if it were a stand alone book. Through that lens, I much better appreciate the story of Lil within her father’s world. I understand the importance of the journey Lil must make without the Guardians. I do miss Grandpa and the rest of the team, since Ednah has already made me fall in love with them.

By the end of the book, I can see the significance of all that Lilith learns, and see it as a necessary plot point if she truly is to fulfill her destiny. Ednah really outdoes herself with a story full of mystery, intrigue, and many unexpected twists and turns. She has done it again with an extraordinary story sure to please all of her fans.

This book flows seamlessly from the end of part one. The concept remains genius. I can
honestly say that I am waiting for Part 3 with baited breath. The story development is exceptional. More layers, both good and bad, are added to the character developments of Silas and Charlie.  The story is page-turning, breath-holding, obsession-building awesome. It feels like torture to wait for the last part of their story, for the answers to be revealed. I almost screamed out loud at the book when I hit the “To Be Continued” (again) in bold letters. I will be on pins and needles until the release of the final book in the series. (Hint, hint.)

I HIGHLY recommend this book series. None of the books are exceptionally long, and now is the perfect time to introduce yourself before Part 3 (the last in the series) is released

Now in My Bookbag: A Christmas Rose (A Dusk Gate Chronicles Novella) by Breeana Puttroff

I love this novella. It is sweet, smartly written and heartwarming. The story is about family, the spirit of giving, and pure love.

I am so glad that I decided to read this novella after I finished Blooms of Consequence, book 4 of The Dusk Gate Chronicles.

Puttroff delivers a well-written, feel good story. It is definitely a must read for fans of The Dusk Gate Chronicles.

Now in My Bookbag: Crossroads (Crossroads Saga #1) by Mary Ting

Overall, I liked this book. It took me a short while to become immersed in the story and connect with the characters though. The flow in the beginning was a bit confusing, with information revealed in a haphazard way.

Once the story began to flow comfortably, I began to enjoy getting to know the characters. The story also became much more engrossing. The action sequences were heart pounding and the revelations truly surprising.

I grew to really like Claudia as the main character. However, my favorite character by far was Gamma, and I loved the admiration and affection she shared with Claudia. Though I loved Michael, I found his character to be somewhat of an enigma and felt sure that future books might reveal shocking information about his past.

The paranormal elements of the story notwithstanding, this book was really a romance… complete with the gifting of hearts and souls (and all of the other gushy stuff). The book was a study in what it means to be soulmates. I felt that overall this book rated a light 4 stars.
